Stormy Milky Way Wedding

Oregon

“We have calcium in our bones, iron in our veins, carbon in our souls, and nitrogen in our brains.

93 percent stardust, with souls made of flames, we are all just stars that have people names.”

-Nikita Gill

The state of Oregon was put on emergency alert the days leading up to October 15th, 2016. Strong winds and leaden clouds stampeded it’s way across the Pacific ocean to hit the Oregon Coast. It was to be the worst storm since the 1960s.

On top of a mountain where the wind whipped viciously, the trees bent and groaned, and the rain fell in sheets, Cat and David braved the storm and became husband and wife. Cat wore a dress her mother designed and sewed for her. The lace on the bodice was the last of its kind. The bottle caps on each of the groomsmen’s boutonnieres were collected intentionally over time so each piece would be unique to that groomsman. Each bridesmaid was given a jewelry plate with a constellation gilded on its surface, a specific jewelry item was laid over each plate. The bears on the cake represented Ursa Major and Ursa Minor, the two bears that roam the stars – also known as the big dipper and little dipper.

It wasn’t just the details that came together so beautifully. The night before the wedding Cat and David had to change the location of their reception from the Christmas Mountain Tree Farm due to the storm. A friend of a family member offered their barn and many friends and family came early to help with the move. Even the day of the wedding, bridesmaids and groomsmen in their best attire moved trees that had fallen from the wind and were blocking to the roads to and from the ceremony site.

It was, absolutely, the perfect storm.
